Our Distinction

history of the center

The School of Education and Social Policy at Northwestern University hosts some of the premier cognitive science and cognition-related faculty in the country. The CLOC was formed in 2001 to determine and demonstrate how theories of learning and cognition can be applied to the world of organizations and business performance. In conjunction with our business partners, we translate theories from cognition and learning into practice and construct new knowledge to address current business problems. The Center serves as a portal for bringing this competency out to the world of organizations.

our philosophy

Our philosophy is that the synthesis of thought and action, around a shared purpose, leads to understanding. By thoughtfully designing products, practices and systems to create and build on this understanding, organizations increase their intelligence in decision-making, relationship building and agility in action. Sustainable value in today’s competitive, global environment is the product of this intelligent action by design.
